My Story

Emily is a fully qualified, insured and registered ballet teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), a world leader in dance education, and a fully certified PBT instructor. She has over 12 years’ experience in teaching ballet to children and over 8 years’ experience teaching ballet and fitness classes to adults.

Over lockdown her successful in person adult classes in Belfast (est. 2014), moved online and expanded to include people throughout the UK - all brought together for fun, focussed classes and creating a welcoming and encouraging group of like-minded people! The online classes continue to be popular even after lockdown has ended - fitting in your workout at home has never been easier, without the added hassle of travel, time restraints or arranging childcare.

Emily currently teaches graded and vocational children's classes at one of Belfast's leading Ballet Schools. When her youngest child started Primary School in Banbridge in September 2022, she was extremely excited to be able to also offer children's RAD classes in her local area.

Emily Follis (née Davis) began dancing at the age of five at the Jennifer Bullick School of Ballet in Lisburn and has trained with some of Northern Ireland's leading ballet teachers, including Jennifer Hall, Fiona Campbell and Caroline Robinson. She achieved consistently high marks throughout her Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examinations. During this time, she also took part in several local dance productions, including the special 75th Anniversary of the RAD performance at the Grand Opera House, Belfast.

Like many who have studied ballet, Emily is very academically driven and as such, pursued an academic career, obtaining a BSc (Hons) in Zoology (1st class) and a PhD in Conservation Biology and Genetics from Queen’s University, Belfast. In 2012, Emily applied for and was accepted onto the two-year RAD CBTS course (2013-2014) following her passion into ballet teaching. She completed the long-distance course, mentored teaching placement and intensive study period in London while also continuing to work full-time in scientific research at Queen’s University, Belfast.

Emily is married to Ben, a landscape gardener. They live in Banbridge with their two children, Willow (8) and Oliver (6) and two dogs Loki and Rosie.
